A look at the new world of marketing and PR

So, Thinking Digital is over for another year…

What an event. Herb, Marissa and the whole Codeworks team have again created a stunning event. Steve has always said he loves this event. I agree 100%. Very few events actually do what they say except this - Think Digital. But there are SO many diverse topics that get covered it can make your head spin!

Highlights today:

Thinking Digital 2010 - Day 1

Wow, what a day, it’s 1.40am and the energy that has persisted throughout the day has almost dissipated. Still, if I was Rory Sutherland, I’d probably still be wide awake and regaling audiences with some painfully witty insights into the human condition!

What a day, and one which I wish you could all experience. Thinking Digital does, unlike many conferences, gets you thinking about this wonderful new digital world in which we live.

This isn’t your conventional crap about new age of consumer control and social networks, this is about a hugely diverse group of people who are helping shape our world with incredible vision, observations and above all, imagination. If you didn’t make it this year, I compel you to get your tickets next week (or within the next few days anyway).

Win one of two tickets to an exclusive lunch with Brian Solis

As many of you know, Thinking Digital begins next week with another amazing lineup of interesting and inspirational speakers.

This year, we are all very fortunate (and I do mean fortunate, given his schedule!) to have Brian Solis speak. What’s just as exciting however is that Gabba are getting involved to bring you an exclusive lunch with Brian taking place on Wednesday 26th May at 1pm.

There are only 30 places available and you can win one of TWO through this blog.

A really exciting Gabba/TD2010 announcement

A few months ago, I approached Brian to see if we could bring Techset to the UK. We (me and Herb) tried our best, but time, financial conditions and erm, the impending arrival of Fabretti 2.0 meant that we couldn’t quite make it happen.

This time around anyway…Fortunately, Brian has agreed to attend TD2010 and speak, but all our efforts have not been for nought…there will be more…so come back for more on the announcement soon and be quick on the button.

Nuff said.

Thinking Digital - go and get your head shaken up

Steve posted this video from Herb as a reminder that Thinking Digital is coming up again soon. That yours truly can offer no original thought or insights to appear on stage is not the issue (although I do appear in the video talking - no surprise there!) but as an attendee from 2008 I cannot recommend the event highly enough.

The speakers at the event do a great job in summarising last year’s event, but none better than Sean Phelan, founder of Multimap “it’s TED for the North East” - Insightful, Stimulating, Educational and Though-Provoking.

Thinking Digital - back again, 14-15 May, Gateshead

Like Steve, (and THANKS to Steve!), I was reminded about Thinking Digital in Gateshead last year. Herb also got in touch recently to remind me of this year’s event.

Herb and the team have a great event on their hands in Thinking Digital and last year really set a high bar - all centred around THINKING digital. You can book tickets for this year’s event through the widget on the left.

I’ve got to say, seeing Tara and Steve again were two main drivers for me going last year. Tara spoke about Happiness as a business model (preso below) and Steve was demo’ing some great new technologies from Microsoft. Fab stuff.

BUT, as I posted last year, the work of Jonathan Harris just blew me away and even today, recall with astonishment, his stunning work. I can’t recommend looking at his work enough. Truly inspiring stuff.

And a sample of Jonathan’s work:

Despite leaving in a blur of Citroen C2 tyre smoke (to attend the North West Big Chip Awards) thanks to the event, my mind was full of “what-ifs”; thinking about digital in a very different, conceptual and philosophical way rather than in a functional, sales or promotional way. Herb and the team deserve a lot of credit for taking this angle.

For such a technology-centric event, thought, emotion and love played significant roles in the topics discussed but the balance was very well struck.

If last year is anything to go by, this year will be as equally exciting.
