Google launches its own online webpage creator

Google’s has just paunched a great new tool called Google Page Creator! Great idea eh? anyone with a google id can now log in and create their own website in a matter of minutes!

This type of WYSIWYG software was previously the domain of web hosting companies, eager to get you to sign up and host (and design) your site with them, but the potential for this, I believ is HUGE!

But is it all good?

It will be a matter of time before it becomes abused, although one would hope that by having to create a google account, the user may be put off from causing problems.

What bothers me is that when the internet boom first came about, every man and his dog created websites. Great. Businesses just HAD to have a website, but with the desperation to create a website, for every good website that launched, came hundreds of thousand of crap ones, all indexed by the search engines and all creating more and more dross for us to filter through to get to what is relevant to us.

So with the tentative and delicate emergence of Web 2.0 (the so-called next-generation of internet technologies) should something like Google Page Creator be praised for allowing everyone with a computer (again) to create a website which it then has to waste time filtering for relevance, or should this move be applauded for allowing anyone with a computer to design and set up their own web presence and arguably create value by letting them have their say?
